Living together
Cohabitation agreements
If you are not married and your relationship breaks down, unfortunately you do not have the same legal protection as married couples.
We can help you to come to an agreement to resolve any financial or children-related matters but if an agreement cannot be reached, we can advise you on the following options:
Trusts of land and appointment of trustees act 1996
A person can make a claim against property or assets owned by someone else and we can help you to make this type of application.
Financial applications for children
Applications can be made under Schedule 1 of the Children Act 1989 for children whose parents are unmarried. We can advise on whether this type of application is appropriate for your circumstances.
If you are in a new relationship and planning to set up home together, we can help you draw up a Cohabitation Agreement so that you and your partner have a clear idea of what will happen to your property, finances and assets if the relationship ends.
