The Children & Families Act 2014 came into effect on 22 April 2014 introducing the principle that both separated parents should continue to be involved in their children's lives as long as it is safe to do so. It did not introduce equality of time.

For someone wishing to make an application to the court, that person must attend a family mediation information and assessment meeting although there are some circumstances where this is not necessary such as where there are domestic violence issues.

Custody terminology has changed and instead of residence and contact orders, the new unified Family Court now makes Child Arrangements Orders.

We offer help and guidance in areas such as:

  • With whom the children will live (formerly residence)
  • When a child is to spend time or otherwise have contact with any person (contact)
  • Parental responsibility
  • Removal from the jurisdiction - moving to another country
  • Specific issues - children's education, health or religion
  • Grandparents' rights
  • Adoption

We will give you the professional support that you need and we will work with you to find a solution that is in your children's best interests.

It is vital that you take expert legal advice at the earliest opportunity as it will save time, money and anxiety in the long run. Mistakes made now can end up being costly in years to come. Call us on 01234 711 701 for a discreet and friendly conversation about your circumstances.
